Post-Surgical & Recovery Travel

Clinical continuity from the hospital to your front door.

OVERVIEW

The hours and days immediately following surgery are among the most clinically sensitive of any patient's journey. Wound integrity is fragile; pain is a moving target. The risk of infection, embolism, or post-operative complication is highest when the patient is furthest from the surgical team. Traveling during this window, even by private jet, without qualified clinical support is a risk that no recovery plan should accept.

Air Nurses specializes in post-surgical transport for patients who are medically stable but require expert clinical oversight to travel safely. Whether returning home after a procedure abroad, relocating for ongoing recovery, or transferring between facilities, our CFRNs coordinate directly with your surgical team to ensure the transition is seamless and your recovery is protected at every stage.

We are not an afterthought; we are an extension of your surgical team. Every care decision made during the journey is informed by your surgeon's protocols, your current status, and the clinical judgment of an experienced flight nurse who has managed post-operative patients at altitude. Your recovery continues without interruption.

Frequently Asked Questions

How soon after surgery can I travel?

The appropriate travel window depends entirely on the type of surgery, the patient's current status, and the physician's clearance. We require surgeon sign-off before confirming any post-surgical transport. Some procedures allow travel within days; others require a longer period of stability. We will guide you through this assessment.

Can you manage surgical drains, wound vacs, or catheters during the flight?

Yes. Our nurses are trained in the management of common post-surgical devices including drains, wound VACs, urinary catheters, and nasogastric tubes. Specific equipment requirements are reviewed during the pre-travel consultation.

What happens if there is a complication during the flight?

Every post-surgical transport includes a pre-established escalation protocol developed in coordination with your surgeon. Your nurse is equipped to manage most in-flight complications directly and can coordinate with ground medical services or divert to the nearest appropriate facility if required.

Can this service be combined with an on-demand or international deployment?

Yes. Post-Surgical Travel can be combined with our On-Demand Flight Nurse Response for urgent situations or with our international deployment capability for patients recovering abroad who need to return home under clinical supervision.
