Patient Profile

The Situation

Air Nurses Response

Mission confirmed by 5:00 p.m, the flight nurse departed at 8:15 p.m. to meet the family in Rome

Route

London → Rome hospital → Rome FBO → receiving FBO and hospital

The Challenge

International medical transport depends on every detail working together. This mission required coordination among the family, broker, aircraft crew, hospitals, ambulance teams, FBO personnel, customs officials, and private ground transportation across multiple countries and time zones.

The plan also had to move quickly. Air Nurses needed to position an experienced flight nurse in Rome, meet the patient and family at the hospital, prepare the next-day transfer, and create a clear path from the hospital bedside to the receiving medical team.

The Air Nurses Response

The nurse landed in London at 11:34 a.m. local time, departed for Rome at 12:30 p.m., and arrived at 4:00 p.m. From the airport, the nurse went directly to the hospital to meet the family and connect with the clinical team.

On arrival to the hospital and discussion with the team, it was decided it would be best to depart in the morning. By 8:30 p.m., the hospital visit was complete and the next morning s transfer was confirmed.

A coordinated bedside-to-bedside transport

At 7:00 a.m. the nurse returned to the hospital with the ambulance team. The ambulance departed at 7:30 a.m. and arrived at the FBO at 8:00 a.m., where the family met the patient. By 9:00 a.m., the patient and family were safely onboard the Gulfstream G-V and taxiing for the approximately 11-hour flight.

From First Call To Departure

At 10:43 a.m. CST, Air Nurses was notified by the broker. By 1:03 p.m., the team was confirming the mission details with the family and broker while the aircraft and departure slot were secured.

Final confirmation and the signed contract were completed by 5:00 p.m. At 8:15 p.m., the flight departed with the Air Nurses onboard and traveling to meet the patient and family.

The Outcome

At approximately 1:00 p.m. EST, the aircraft landed at the receiving FBO. Customs was cleared onboard for the patient, who was then safely transferred to the waiting ambulance while black-car service supported the family. At 1:30 p.m., Air Nurses completed the hospital handoff. The nurse remained until 3:00 p.m. to
ensure the patient was settled, the family was comfortable at the bedside, and the receiving team had what it needed.
